In our Kindergarten program, teachers and children engage
in meaningful work by researching themes that develop from
the children’s interests and ideas. Morning meeting
provides focus for the day, and activities are designed
that encourage children to work individually, in small
groups, or with the whole classroom community.
Pre-reading and reading skills are acquired through a
combination of whole language and phonics. We use guided
reading to instruct each child at her/his own level. Children
develop math awareness by using a variety of manipulatives,
math sentences, games and interactive activities. The math
concepts that are explored in Kindergarten are patterning,
sorting, classifying, counting, graphing, numbers, and
place value. The curriculum also includes: art, music,
Spanish, physical education, science and computer skills.
Children are encouraged to be independent thinkers and
learners, as well as socially responsible and respectful
of others.
The Kindergarten program is accredited by the National
Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
and is licensed by the State of Connecticut.
