Twos

Welcome to the Twos

The Twos Program is a gentle introduction to the world of school for our youngest learners. Our program encourages children to transfer trust from home to school, to celebrate themselves and to be eager explorers in a safe environment. The daily schedule provides the routine, consistency, and predictability that a two-year-old needs for growth and development. Teachers guide these young learners to grow in social awareness and confidence. Our Twos Program includes weekly music and science classes.

Program Approach

The Door Project

For Twos, topics of investigation often emerge from their everyday experiences. This class noticed the many gates and doors they traveled through in and around their school. Their curiosity prompted hands-on exploration which led to more questions, and the Door Project took off. The class studied the gates and doors leading in and out of their classroom and the latches and handles that allowed them to open and kept them closed. An investigative walk around the building revealed different types of doors and gates, some leading to other areas of the school and others leading to the outside. The children explored a variety of locks, latches, hinges and handles first-hand, as well as through books, photographs, songs and poems. The culmination of the Door Project included dramatic play with a child-sized door built just for them!

Happy Chatter

Learning Community’s Twos program was an exceptional year for both of our daughters. Their love of learning was fostered through the intentional structure of the day and year, with curiosity encouraged and growth well supported. The teachers we had felt like an extension of the family, as we were consistently aligned on when our kids should hear “Yes”, “No”, “What do you think?”, or “Let’s find out!”The school does a wonderful job of balancing appropriate communication with just enough space to facilitate parents’ comfort and kids’ independence. The Twos helped our girls blossom into more confident and kind versions of their toddler selves.
